I really want to know where I will be teaching this fall. I am guaranteed a job, but I may not find out my specific teaching assignment until the beginning of August! I am enrolled as a 7th/8th grade science teacher, but it has recently become apparent to me that there is a good chance that this will not be my placement. Today I was told that I will be interviewing for a position as a "gifted " teacher, meaning that I would be teaching gifted students in grades K-8. This really appeals to me, for obvious reasons (smarter kids = more interesting and intimate instruction? fewer behavior problems? less frustration? smaller class sizes?). I don't know if any of these assumptions are valid, but if I remember my elementary school "gifted" classes correctly, they consisted of small groups of quiet kids receiving very personal instruction from the teacher. This sounds so great to me! I'm not going to get my hopes up though. And besides, there are drawbacks. If I did end up getting this position, I would have to retake the AEPA, as my Middle Grades Science passing score would count for nothing. Plus, I have started to feel really excited about teaching science, and even did two cool lab exercises with my 5th grade class today.
We'll see what happens!
