One Step Forward

Today my Dad moved to a rehabilitation facility in Scottsdale. This had been a long time coming, and had been delayed due to a pneumonia-like lung infection and bile build-up around his gallbladder. Those problems seem to be under control, so now he needs to focus on getting his strength back and learning how to do simple tasks by himself. I can't even imagine what his body must feel like after being in a hospital bed for almost a month. He seems to be in excruciating pain every day, mainly due to his right leg. He will need more surgery on this leg eventually, but for now he will learn to work around it.

Like before, some days are good and some days are bad. Sometimes his attitude worries me, and I start to think that negativity and cynicism will be his biggest roadblocks. On other days he seems optimistic and prepared to put in the hard work necessary for recovery. Whatever the case, I feel profoundly sorry for him and hope that the time in rehab serves him well.
